With the warm weather, I can't help but get playlist fever. Last night, Eric Jackson tipped me off to the song, "Aginst the Law in Winston-Salem" covered by Billy Bragg. Now every time I hear that song, I'll remember how he originally told me about it. So, I decided to make a quick list of songs that make me think of certain people (I'm feeling awfully sentimental today). I don't think the majority of these individuals will realize I associate these songs with them, but oh well. Here they are and why:
1. Aginst the Law- Eric Jackson - See above
2. Ball and Chain- Jessie Vogel - A unanimous decision was once made that if Jessie's personality was an instrument, it would be Big Mama Thornton's voice.
3. A-Punk- Bill Brown- Bill's distinct head-bob to this song
4. Shame- Morgan Bennett- Because she told me that there was nothing better than belting this song, and I totally agreed.
5. The Way I Am- Pete and Cameron Dunlap- First dance as a married couple- the two of them dancing to this song made my dreams come true.
6. Na Rua- Susie Lewis- I have no idea why, but the second this song comes on, I think, "Susie."
7. Outside of This Car- Devon Reed- This was one of the songs that played on a night of particularly intense dancing at 1716. I recall an incriminating photograph showing just how white two white girls can dance.
8. Plate Tectonics- Salem Neff- She wanted us to hear them play at The Garage. Commense friendship!
9. Sweet Misery Blues- Andrew Britt- Any time I enjoy a Violent Femmes song, I think of Andrew, because he enjoys them more than anyone I know.
10. Elephant Love Medley- Marissa Hall- Only friends so dear could understand why we love this song so much.
11. Shoop- Stephanie Zyra- Because we spent several hours making up a choreographed dance to this song and then performed it on my 21st birthday.
12. Wishin' and Hopin' - Julie Mischinski - Julie gave me the soundtrack to My Best Friend's Wedding when we were fifteen. It's still in my possession and still reminding me of Julie.
